Mountaineering and Trekking in India
Mountaineering is the challenge to the spirit, mind and body, which tends to bring ultimate thrill in the life. The challenges of mountaineering in India can be tried in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and the Northeast. Mountaineering in India can be undertaken after obtaining a written permission from the Government of India through the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). Expeditions from abroad also have to pay a peak royalty or fees to climb a peak. The amount of peak royalty depends upon the peak height. A Liaison Officer is assigned to each expedition. The best season for mountaineering in India is from April till October. In some areas like Garhwal and Kullu valley, monsoon months of July and August should also avoided due to heavy rainfall and landslides.

Trekking in India can be undertaken at the vast stretch of the foothills of the Himalayas in Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttaranchal, Chamba and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and West Bengal. Trekking in India has wide options from a modest leisurely trek in the foothills to more challenging high elevation treks. The electrifying scenic beauty, pleasant climatic conditions, calm and tranquil locales and fascinating country culture brings instance peace and serenity to mind of a trekker. Trekking does not require any prior experience and even first timers can go on trek. A person who leads an active lifestyle and enjoys good health can undertake trekking in India.

Experienced guides, camp attendants, kitchen staff and porters will accompany you on your mountaineering and trekking trips to ensure that you are comfortable, safe and having an experience of a lifetime. A normal trekking day starts begins early in the morning. After an early breakfast, tents are dismantled and carried by the porters. The next site for camp halt is generally after a good trek till mid afternoon. A short halt for lunch is taken in between.
