17 NIGHTS – 18 DAYS
Day 01. Arrive Kathmandu
Arrival in Kathmandu. Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 02.Kathmandu Local
Full day city sight-seeing with tour guide.
Am: Kathmandu city tour with Swoyambhunath Sutpa
Pm: Patan City tour with Tibetan Handicraft Centre.
Day 03
Preparation of trip and Evening meeting with team members and trip briefing.
Day 04: Kathmandu - Zhangmu or Nyalam
We depart early in the morning at 0500 hours from our hotel to Zhangmus Arniko Highway. The drive to the frontier check post of Kodari will take us approximately 5 hours and from there to Zhangmu will take us another 35/45 minutes. Overnight will be at simple lodging with basic facilities. (Alternatively depending on the time we reach Zhangmu, we may then drive anohter 30 kms to Nyalam, a small village in Tibet, where we shall stay a simple lodge).
Distance: 122 kms. Altitude: 1900 meters (Zhangmu), 3900 meters (Nyalam).
Day 05: Zhangmu - Nyalam or Nyalam
We drive after breakfast for the small town of Nyalam on steep switchback roads.
The drive should take us about 1:30 hours. On arrival here, we will rest for the remainder of the day to help our bodies acclimatize to the high altitude. If we arrived here the previous day, we will still stay here to acclimatize. Overnight will be at a simple lodge with basic facilities.
Day 06. Nyalam - Saga Dzong
After breakfast, we drive down to kilometer marker 615 and drive past Khunnmen Tso, Sinling and Karru Ochen Tso to Paigu Tso. We well have great views of Tibet's highest mountain, the mighty MT. Shishapangma (8012 m). We stop here briefly to rest and take picture before continuing our drive from the western side of the lake then turn north before reaching Saga. We will make camp nearby.
Distance: 188 kms Altitude: 4600 meters.
Day 07: Saga Dzong - Horpa or Paryang
After breakfast, we continue our drive across the vast Tibetan platcau, heading west on the left bank of the Metseng Tsangpo River through the village of Shue. We will camp nearby.
Distance: 252 kms Altitude: 4650 meters
Day 08: Horpa/Paryang - Mayumla
As usual, we set out again after breakfast & cross the Paryang River, and enroute, we may come across the occasions herd of wild asses (Kang) and some nomadic tribes, before making a halt for the night at the settlement of Mayumla.
Distance: 87 kms Altitude: 5151 meters.
Day 09: Mayumla - Darchen (Tharchen)
As usual, we set out after breakfast, climbing and crossing the Mayumla pass and through Rongyu Tso and Thorchen where we get our 1st. views of our objective ---- "Kailash & Manasrovar", in the far distance. We drive past Lake Manasarovar to Darchen, our halt for the night, which is also, know as the base for the Kailash Parikarma.
Distance: 239 kms Altitude: 4588 meters.
Day 10 Holy Mt. Kailash Parikarma
Day 11 Holy Mt. Kailash Parikarma
Day 12. Holy Mt. Kailash Parikarma
We start our Parikarma of Mt. Kailash, after an early breakfast, and it will take a good part of 2 and half days for us to complete. Those of you, not making the Parikarma, will move a short distance, to lake Manasarover, where we can perform our ablutions to Lord Shiva. Distance: 55 kms (parikarma)
Day 13 Manasarovar-Zhangmu
Day 14 Manasarovar-Zhangmu
Day 15 Manasarovar-Zhangmu
Day 16 Manasarovar-Zhangmu
We come back as fast as possible using the same route we have traveled. Our last night in Tibet will be in Nyalam.
Day 17 Nylam/Zhangmu/Kathmandu
Our last morning in Tibet and by late afternoon we will be back in the Luxurious comfort of our hotel in Kathmandu
Day 18. Departure transfer to airport onward to flight.
